1. British children know what presents they will get on Easter Sunday. Their parents, grandparents, sisters and brothers give them chocolate eggs. It’s a tradition. Sometimes children don’t eat their Easter presents but roll them downhill. It is a tradition too. For example, every Easter Monday, which is a holiday in Britain, children living in Preston come to Avenham Park and roll eggs there. They use not only chocolate but also real eggs and even oranges in this unusual race.

2. In the United States the Easter Egg Roll began in 1814. Dolley Madison, the wife of President James Madison, invited a lot of children to come and take part in the new game. The Egg Roll is a race in which children push³ an egg through the grass with a kind of long spoon. The race takes place near the White House every Easter Monday.

3. Cheese-rolling is more dangerous than rolling eggs. Sometimes the cheeses are very heavy — three kilograms or more. Cheese-rolling happens on the eighth day after Easter. The players send cheeses rolling down the hill and run after them. The first person to get to the foot of the hill is the winner. People believe that this tradition is about 500 years old.
