What are the pictures you see in your mind when you think about Great Britain?

I know from my own experience, usually people imagine some popular places: old castles, a foggy island, red buses, the London Eye, football and tea. Some of you will picture Big Ben, the Thames or the Tower Bridge. Some also speak about the Royal Family and other famous people like the Beatles and characters from literature like the Hobbit or Harry Potter. But Britain is not only a set of symbols. It is a real country with its own geography, economy and special political system, a rich culture and different sports events.

I’d like to begin my story with some interesting facts about my country.

Most of us have heard about the strange climate in Britain. The weather here is rather cool and changeable and it often rains, which is good for plants. The British love their green gardens full of beautiful flowers. Great Britain is rich in gardens and parks which are famous all over the world.

Let me remind you that the UK consists of more than 5,000 islands of different sizes! The largest island, Great Britain, is half the size of France or Spain. But the English language is the first language of international communication in the world. By the way, if you visit Scotland or Wales one day, you may have trouble understanding people there. Their English has a strong accent which can be difficult to understand.

From the article, I learned some new facts about the UK. For example, I didn't know that the UK consists of more than 5,000 islands. It was also surprising to learn that the island of Great Britain is half the size of France or Spain. Another interesting fact is that the changeable and rainy weather is the reason why Britain has so many beautiful green gardens and parks. Finally, I learned that people in Scotland and Wales have strong accents that can be difficult to understand.
