As soon as you arrive at BRIT in London you can see that it is no normal school! Students dance in the playground, play guitars and violins in the dining hall, and sing in the bathrooms. That’s because BRIT is the UK’s most famous performing arts school. 850 young people between the ages of 14 and 19 study music, dance, film and theatre at BRIT.

So, what’s special about BRIT? Firstly, the school has its own theatre, radio station, TV and music studios. It’s OK to make a lot of noise at BRIT! To practise their performance skills, the students give performances every month. So, after school, students can listen to their friends play in a jazz concert, see them act in a play, or watch them dance to the latest music. Another special thing about BRIT is that students don’t have to wear uniforms like they do at other British schools. Instead, you can see them wearing lots of amazing clothes as they want to be creative. So, bright colours, jackets, jeans, big hair and lots of jewellery are all cool here!

However, BRIT isn’t totally different from other schools. Classes start at 8:45, and students have to be on time. From the ages of 14 to 16, students study subjects like Maths, English and Science, as well as performance classes. It’s not easy to study so many different things. Yet, students love their classes at BRIT. Teachers even say that students don’t want to go home at the end of the day! The school is also very popular. Every year, hundreds of students apply to BRIT. Not only is it a very good school, but it is the only performing arts school in the UK that is free to attend. BRIT students have bright futures; 60% of them get jobs in the performance sector. Some of them become very famous. British pop stars Amy Winehouse, Adele and Leona Lewis are all old BRIT students. However, teachers say that the BRIT education is not about fame. What is important is that the students learn new skills and make good friends.
