As you know, there are five oceans on our planet. The largest and the deepest is the Pacific Ocean. The second largest ocean is the Atlantic Ocean. This ocean is only half as large as the Pacific. The Indian Ocean is smaller but deeper than the Atlantic Ocean. The Southern Ocean is smaller than the Indian Ocean and the Arctic Ocean is the smallest and it is not very deep. The ocean between Europe and America is the Atlantic. The Pacific is to the east of Asia. The Arctic Ocean is in the north and the Indian is in the south, near India. The Southern Ocean encircles Antarctica. The five oceans have 97 percent of all water on the planet.

Oceans are home to millions of living things: plants, fish, water birds and animals. People started travelling across the ocean very long ago. Once it was very dangerous because they didn't have good strong ships. Now we have modern ships and underwater bathyscaphes but we can't say that we know everything about the oceans. There are still a lot of things that we would like to find out. Oceanographers are scientists who help us to know more about the five powerful oceans and life in them.
