Don't miss the Ang Thong Marine Park. (When are you visiting? The park closes at the beginning of November but reopens at the end of December.) There are 42 little islands with white beaches and clear green water. You can get there in a boat or a kayak. On the main island there are fantastic views from the top of the hill – but it's a long, steep climb and you'll find it very difficult if you aren't fit.

If you take a two-hour bus ride from Bangkok, you'll get to the elephant park at Kanchanaburi. I worked there for a week as a volunteer and it was the best part of my trip. The elephants come there because they're sick or hurt and you'll help to look after them. You won't need to take much in your backpack, but make sure you bring soap and shampoo, because you'll get pretty dirty! I really loved this experience and I felt like a different person when I rejoined my friends in Bangkok.
