Modern-day musical child prodigies

Charlotte Church is famous for being an opera singer, a classical singer, a pop singer and a television presenter.

Charlotte is born in Cardiff, Wales on 21st February.

At the age of 11, Charlotte appears on a TV show called Talking Telephone Numbers. She sings a classical piece called Pie Jesu.

At the age of 13 Charlotte releases her first and second CDs: Voice of an Angel and Charlotte Church.

Charlotte becomes one of the world's top ten best-selling female vocalists and one of the youngest artists to be number one in the UK's classical charts.

2002 Charlotte is 16 and has a hit record Prelude. Charlotte decides to end her career as an opera singer and she becomes a pop singer.

2006 Charlotte gets a nomination for Best British Female Performer at the BRIT awards. The same year she launches her own TV show.

NOW She performs regularly.

Vanessa Mae is a famous violinist. She plays classical music and pop music and is famous for fusing the two styles. Her concerts attract millions of people all over the world.

1978 Vanessa Mae is born in Singapore on 27th October.

1982 At the age of four, she moves to London with her family.

1986 Vanessa starts her classical violin lessons at the age of five.

1988 She plays her first professional concert at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival. She is ten years old. The same year she performs with London's Philharmonia Orchestra in the UK.

1995 Vanessa is 13 and the youngest violinist to record the violin concertos of Beethoven and Tchaikovsky.

1999 At 17 Vanessa sells more than 3.5 million copies of her CD The Violin Player.

NOW She continues to play concerts and sell CDs.
