These days most people own a mobile phone. But what do you do with your old mobile when you get a new one?

You can recycle your mobile phone in three ways: by giving it away to somebody else, by returning it to the manufacturer or by sending it to one of the new mobile phone recycling schemes that have been set up.

'Turn On Your Mobile' is a company that exchanges cash for old mobile phones. For full details go to www.recyclemymobile.co.uk. The website has a search engine that helps you find the make and model of your mobile. When you find it, you send in an email asking for a quote (how much they will pay you). You have to give the company your name and contact details and as much information as you can about the phone. They want to know if it is working properly and what kind of condition it is in.

The company reads your email and then writes back to tell you how much they will pay you. They also give you details of how to send the mobile phone to them. If the phone is not worth much, there is no postal cost. If the phone is valuable, you can pay for a special delivery service and the company later refunds this payment. The company pays within 72 hours. Some people prefer to donate the payment to a charity of their choice.
