English Sketches, Units One to Three.

At school on Monday morning.

Sarah: Hi, how was the weekend?

Jenny: Not bad.

Sarah: What's the matter? Are you okay?

Jenny: I don't know. Michael is being very strange these days.

Sarah: In what way?

Jenny: Well, we always walk to school together. But this week, he's walking with Dan.

Sarah: And you don't like walking alone?

Jenny: I don't mind that, but he doesn't want to talk to me.

Sarah: Oh, I think he does. He really likes you.

Jenny: No he doesn't. When I go into a room and he's talking to a friend, they look at me and change the subject. Something's wrong, I know. What can I do? He's my best friend.

Sarah: Don't worry, I'm sure there's a reason.

Sarah: Come on, class is starting.

At lunchtime.

Sam: Hi guys. Are you ready for Saturday?

Michael: Yes. We're practicing this afternoon after school. In fact, we're practicing every day this week so we're ready for the party.

Sam: Where's Dan? He's the singer. We need him.

Michael: He's seeing the dentist now, but he's coming this afternoon. Cool.

Sam: How is the song going?

Michael: Fine. It's really good. The guitars are great and I love playing this style.

Sam: Yes, it's fun.

Sam: What time are we meeting on Saturday?

Michael: Shh! Here's Jenny.

Sam: So, um, there isn't any homework today.

Jenny: Hi Michael!

Michael: Hi. Um, see you later. We're going, um, to the hairdresser.

Jenny: The hairdresser? It's lunchtime.

Michael: Mm, there's a new hairdresser. It's cheap at lunchtime. Bye!

Jenny: Oh no, is Michael going out with the hairdresser? But he's my friend. Oh.

Sarah: Jenny! Sam and Darren are going with him.

Sarah: Come on, Joe's waiting for us.

In the street after school.

Sam: Have we got a present for Jenny?

Dan: There are some fantastic computer games in this shop.

Michael: Jenny doesn't like computers. I want to give her a special present.

Sam: You like Jenny a lot, don't you?

Michael: She's a good friend. She likes swimming and she loves music.

Dan: Does she play an instrument?

Michael: No, she doesn't. But she loves singing and writing songs. She's great.

Michael: We can give her a guitar. And my brother can give her some classes. A guitar! Hey, good idea!

Sam: Everybody pays five pounds. There's a second-hand music shop opposite my house. Perfect.

Dan: Oh no! Here she comes again!

Michael: Hi Jenny!

Jenny: Hi.

Jenny: Oh. Your hair's the same.

Sam: Um, the hairdresser's busy today. We're going again on Saturday.

Jenny: Oh, but Saturday's my birthday!

Michael: Is it? Oh. We're watching the football on Saturday.

Jenny: What are you doing on Sunday?

Jenny: I'm busy. Goodbye!

Sarah: Jenny!

Sam: Uh-oh.

Dan: Don't worry, Michael.

Saturday afternoon.

Jenny: Thanks for coming to the leisure center with me.

Jenny: Oh. This is a terrible birthday.

Sarah: But you love swimming!

Jenny: Yeah, but why are we going this way? That's Michael's house.

Sarah: He's, uh, lending me his dictionary.

Sarah: Come on. It's only for a minute.

Dan: Hello Darren.

Darren: Hello.

Michael: Hi Jenny.

Dan: Someone's waiting for you in the living room.

Jenny: Hello. Waiting for me?

Dan: Mhm. This way.

Multiple: Surprise! Happy birthday!

Dan: You're looking great today, Jenny. Happy birthday.

Jenny: Oh, Michael. Thanks.
