Felix the Cat was one of the first animated cartoon characters. The black and white cat didn't speak because cartoons were silent in the nineteen twenties. When sound cartoons started, Felix became less popular.
Nineteen fifties.
Walt and Roy Disney founded the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio in nineteen twenty-three. Five years later, they made the first sound animation, a Mickey Mouse cartoon. Disney TV began in the nineteen fifties.
Nineteen sixties.
The Flintstones was the first TV cartoon in color. It started in the USA during the nineteen sixties. This pre-historic family had a car made of stone and they even traveled by aeroplane on a giant dinosaur.
Nineteen seventies.
In nineteen seventy-five, the creative and innovative Russian animator, Yuri Norshteyn, completed his best-known work, Hedgehog in the Fog. The film won a lot of awards at home and abroad, and in two thousand three was voted the best animated film of all time at the Laputa Film Festival in Tokyo, Japan.
Nineteen nineties.
In nineteen ninety-five, Toy Story was the first computer animated film. Before then, cartoons didn't use computer animation. Toy Story was an enormous success. Millions of people went to see it at cinemas around the world.
Two thousands.
During the nineteen nineties, Japanese anime became very popular. The illustrators drew manga characters for comics and films. They also influenced a lot of computer games, such as Pokémon.

Jenny Well, we always walk to school together, but this week he's walking with Dan.
Aisha And you don't like walking alone ...

Sam Does she play an instrument?
Michael No, she doesn't. But she loves singing and writing songs. She's great.
Darren We can give her a guitar. And my brother can give her some classes.

Darren Everybody pays five pounds ...
Sam There's a second hand music shop opposite my house.
