Why Do People Walk in Their Sleep?

There are very few cases of people walking in their sleep. But while sleepwalking is a (1) __________ form of behaviour, it can be easily explained — there is nothing (2) __________ about it. To understand it (3) __________ us start with sleep itself. We need to sleep so that our tired organs will rest and (4) __________. The blood, in its turn, regulates this sleep centre.

While working, the sleep centre does two things. The first is to block off part of the brain so that we no longer have the will to do anything. We might call this “brain sleep”. The second thing it does is to block off certain nerves in the brain stem so that internal organs and our limbs fall asleep. Let us call this “body sleep”.
