What Causes Headaches?

The answer to this question may be: anything and everything! A headache can start for any number of reasons4. You see, a headache is not a disease. It is a symptom ['sımptəm]. It is just a way of knowing that there is a problem in a part of the body. We know something about the “mechanism” ['mekənɪzm] of headaches, that is what happens in the body to cause the pain of a headache. The pain itself comes from certain structures ['strʌktʃəz] in the skull5. The veins [veɪnz] and arteries ['ɑ:tərɪz] feeding the brain can “feel” pain. Also, when your teeth, ears and muscles ['mʌslz] hurt, the pain goes to the brain and a person gets a headache.

But what is really happening in all these cases? In fact, the arteries in the skull become wider. This gives practically every person a headache.
