When Grandma and I finished drinking tea with milk, Sultan appeared riding a horse.

'Ready?'

'Ready!'

I went out. Sultan was sitting proudly on a lively four-year-old gray horse.

'Where's my horse?' I asked.

'This horse can take two riders not just to the zhailau but even to Almaty.'

I have never seen one horse with two saddles. But it was interesting, especially because no one has ever done it before. Sultan's idea was brilliant. It was much more comfortable to sit on the second saddle.

We walked and trotted and by noon we reached the mountains. The air here was much cleaner and cooler than on the plain, and the landscape was much more beautiful. But I was too tired from riding.

As soon as we turned behind a big mountain, we saw a grey yurt on the green slope. Two foals were standing next to it. It was a sure sign that there was kymyz inside. A boy about seven or eight years old ran out of the yurt.

'Whose place is this?' Sultan asked.

'Zhumagul's!'

'Greetings to Zhumagul! What's he doing?'

'Herding sheep.'

'Is your mother at home?'

'She's gone to the dairy farm'

'Do you have any kymyz?'

'No'

'Hey!' Sultan shouted. 'This silly boy doesn't know what happens to liars! What's your name?'

'Daulet'

'Listen, Daulet,' Sultan said sweetly, 'where's the full waterskin of kymyz tied under the bed? We'll just have a small piala each.'

We entered the yurt. The boy quickly untied the waterskin. We began to drink from the pialas, finishing six full of them in total.

'Give us something to eat. Kymyz burns our stomachs,' Sultan demanded.

'Do you want bread? Butter?' the boy asked.

'Sure!'

We quickly finished large pieces of bread with butter and then the boiled meat.

'Let's go!' Sultan commanded.

Daulet ran after us as we left the yurt. Sultan and I were already on the horse. I kicked it with all my strength. The horse galloped away from the yurt, leaving the small, silly boy we had so shamelessly deceived.

'Ha! Ha! Ha!' Sultan laughed. 'Look here!' He opened the saddlebag and pulled out a grey karakul skin. The stolen skin was soft as silk and shone in the sunlight.

I felt cold somewhere near my heart, and I couldn't say anything:

'Did you... you stole it?'

'Look, don't make a sound to anyone.'

That was the worst that could happen! I hated stealing and thieves! Anyone who can steal can do any crime, the most horrible crime.
