Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.

Welcome to the beautiful historic city of Strasbourg.

I hope you enjoyed your tour of the Champagne district yesterday and that you had a good journey here today.

We are going to start our tour at the Council of Europe building.

This was designed by the architect Анри Бернар from France.

Э-э, yes, sir, I can spell that for you.

It was built in nineteen seventy-seven.

We aren't going into the building today, but you can arrange tours.

The only rule is that no children under the age of fourteen are allowed.

In nineteen ninety-nine, the European Parliament moved to a new building, which we can see ahead of us.

This is the Луиз Вайс building, named after the writer and committed European who died in nineteen eighty-three at the age of ninety.

This building has been much talked about since it opened, mainly because of the very great costs of building it: approximately four hundred million dollars in total.

Many of the complaints were caused when it was found that each member of the European Parliament had a shower built in their office at a cost of twelve thousand dollars each.

Another complaint is that the building is only used for one week each month, and not at all during August.

Now, you'll see there are two other buildings linked to the Луиз Вайс building.

One is called the Сальвадор де Мадариага building and the other is the Уинстон Черчилль building.

You'll notice that all the buildings are round.

The shape was to represent trust and a free sharing of ideas between countries.

After we have walked around the buildings, we will be taking the tour bus back to the city center, where we'll have dinner at the famous restaurant О Крокодиль, near the cathedral.
