However, when he was mistakenly called "the merchant of death" in an obituary, he decided to leave a better legacy. He left 94% of his fortune to create the Nobel Prizes, which are awarded annually on December 10th, the anniversary of his death. The prizes are awarded in Sweden and Norway for outstanding achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and peace, to honor people who have conferred the greatest benefit on mankind.

Альфред Нобель был шведским изобретателем, наиболее известным благодаря изобретению динамита. Он был пацифистом и надеялся, что его изобретение будет настолько разрушительным, что положит конец всем войнам.
