Have you ever heard of Oxbridge? It is really something unique. It's clear that the name is a combination of the two famous names: Oxford and Cambridge. These universities are obviously among the most famous in the world (1) .... Is it really so?

Of course, it depends very much on what you are looking for and what subject you are going to take. Some courses, for example, medicine, are too academic and are better for those (2) .... If you decide to do English – Oxbridge is a good choice, in my opinion. So you shouldn't get caught up in the names and the idea of prestige because sometimes it may not be true. You should try to learn as much as you can about the university you would like to enter and then make a decision.

I do believe that every university has something unique. Oxbridge is very different from other universities in several ways. First, it is a well-known college system described in many books and films. Actually, there are more than 30 colleges at Cambridge and 40 at Oxford (3) .... It's an important choice because each college is very different. It is a small community in which every student lives and studies for quite a long time with its accommodation and all sorts of facilities: libraries, computer classes, cafés and many others. There may be from 300 to 500 students at different levels.

In the first year at university students usually live in college (4) .... A lot happens outside, for example, lectures and labs are often held in the faculty building where students from different colleges meet each other if they study the same subject.

Another thing that makes Oxford and Cambridge different is their focus on teaching students in very small groups or even one-to-one. I mean so called tutorials in Oxford, in Cambridge they are called supervisions. It is obviously a great advantage for students (5) .... Some students complain that this system leads to a heavy workload because regular tutorials require a lot of preparation. This is the reason why very few Oxbridge students have part-time jobs during terms, (6) ....!

The most famous thing about Oxford and Cambridge is their traditions: most of them are very old. Traditional historical gowns are well known (7) .... For example, Latin is used during special ceremonies when students join the university, graduate or have formal dinners. Some things may seem strange and annoying but for students they create a feeling of belonging to a special community and add fun to being a student at Oxbridge.

So, that's what I wanted to share about Oxbridge. What other universities would you like to consider?
