According to Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, "space is the final frontier". Whether you believe this or not, we have already made small steps into space. Some people say it is only a matter of time before we will send men to Mars and even explore beyond our solar system. Others think we should look after our own planet before we try to visit others.

On the one hand, there may be a number of benefits to space exploration. Firstly, space travel will require a lot of specialised equipment and developing it will provide jobs for many people. Secondly, the new inventions that are created may also be useful for people on Earth. Also, space exploration requires advances in technology and knowledge especially in the areas of energy and mechanics. This new knowledge may provide solutions to problems on this planet. Finally, it may help us find a second home as one day Earth may not be big enough.

On the other hand, however, there are also many drawbacks to exploring space. To start with, the billions of dollars that will be spent on it could be put to better use solving the problems we have now, such as world hunger. Furthermore, some of the new technology developed for space exploration could be used for harmful purposes in the wrong hands.

All things considered, it seems that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. We need to use careful planning and good judgement to help us to invest in and use space technology wisely. Only time will tell if this is what will happen.
