Saint-Ferréol — centre touristique sur le lac de Saint-Ferréol (Haute-Garonne, France)

1. On n'avait jamais vu un été pareil dans les collines. Tout le monde cuisait. Bref, il faisait chaud.

Comme d'habitude depuis le début des vacances, nous étions tous chez Jonathan. Ses parents possédaient la plus belle maison de Saint-Ferréol. Assis sur la terrasse, Jonathan jouait de la guitare. À côté de lui, Manu dormait. Moi, je regardais Cindy l'Américaine, en pensant qu'elle devait bientôt repartir aux États-Unis. Il faisait tellement chaud !

2. Tout à coup, on a entendu la voix du haut-parleur qui disait : « Grand concours de guitare ! Grand concours... » On n'entendait pas bien, mais on a fini par comprendre que la municipalité organisait un concours de guitare, réservé aux jeunes de moins de dix-huit ans. Premier prix, une guitare Vantusso, avec des cadeaux pour tous les participants. On pouvait s'inscrire à la mairie, en remplissant un bulletin.

3. J'ai demandé à Jonathan :
– Ça t'intéresse, ce concours ?
– Si c'est vraiment une Vantusso le premier prix, bien sûr que ça m'intéresse !
Comme il voyait que ça ne nous disait pas grand-chose, il a expliqué :
– Ce sont des guitares, fabriquées par les frères Vantusso. Elles ne sont pas très connues, mais ce sont de petites merveilles ! J'ai toujours eu envie d'en avoir une.
– Moi, je suis sûr que tu peux le gagner, ce concours ! s'est écrié Manu.
Alors, Jonathan est allé à la mairie pour s'inscrire au concours.

5. Parce qu'il faut bien le dire que Jonathan était un très bon guitariste. D'abord, il avait commencé tout petit. Il avait toujours eu les meilleurs cours et les meilleurs instruments. Il travaillait sérieusement deux heures par jour, tous les jours. À dix-sept ans, il jouait déjà comme un professionnel. Les morceaux les plus difficiles, pour lui, c'était rien. Cette fameuse guitare, il l'avait gagnée d'avance, c'était dans la poche.
