How are your manners?

These days, American parents are much worried about the bad manners and rude behavior that young children are learning from television programs. Many of the families send their kids to manners camps.

For about one hundred dollars a day, young children can learn that it is rude to say yuck if they're given something to eat which they don't like. They will also learn that it is not amusing, but rather rude, to blow bubbles in their drinks.

What can sometimes seem funny or amusing on a television sitcom, in other words, in a comedy television program, is often accepted as embarrassing rudeness in real life.

Nowadays, many American children spend part of their summer at manners camps, where they learn to host a dinner party. They learn what the appropriate way to receive guests is, what food should be provided at such social events.

They get information about how to hold a fish knife properly, and even how to take phone messages. A lot of children at the beginning of the course don't know that it is not polite to say yeah to the person on the other end of the line.

Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, Millfield, one of the most expensive private schools, is also running fourteen-week courtesy classes, so to speak, classes of proper behavior and good manners for its teenagers.

This is because employers think young people today lack social skills, as they don't learn them at home anymore.
