Exercise eighty-six. Listen to the interviews again and complete the rest of the table.

Interviewer: I would like to ask some people from different countries a question about what was shocking for them when they went abroad for the first time. Let me introduce Vida from Slovenia.

Vida: Hello. My name is Vida. I come from Slovenia and I teach English and German there. I'll tell you what I found most shocking when I first went to the United Kingdom. It was the queuing. Apparently, I didn't queue right, and nobody bothered to tell me. They were just all staring at me, but saying nothing. Nothing changed until I figured out on my own how to queue properly. Another thing I found shocking was how people were on the train. Every time I say hello, nobody would answer. It was very depressing seeing everyone looking out the windows and saying nothing.

Interviewer: And now, Yelena from Croatia.

Interviewer: So, Yelena, when you were abroad for the first time, what was most shocking for you?

Yelena: Well, when my family and I first went to Italy, there were some things that were shocking, although Croatians and Italians do have connected cultures. But the Italians tend to be very loud and quite intimate. When they start a conversation, they tend to ask very personal questions, even people in the street. And there is always some problem with the traffic, you know. Drivers yelling at each other. It was overall just a slight culture shock.

Interviewer: And now, Bianca from Romania. Hello, Bianca.

Bianca: Hello.

Interviewer: When you were abroad for the first time, what was the most shocking thing for you?

Bianca: I guess one shocking thing for me was when I first arrived in Poland and we were still on the train, and the train kept stopping in different stations. I was surprised by the energy of the people, the way they were running onto the train, rushing through the corridors, and all the while laughing and talking. This is what surprised me, since I didn't expect it.

Interviewer: And now let me introduce György Kúrsch.

György Kúrsch: I am from Hungary.

Interviewer: Okay, tell me, when you were abroad for the first time, what was the most shocking thing for you?

György Kúrsch: Well, actually, my first time abroad was a very long time ago. So, I would rather mention a more recent experience, which I had just two years ago when I went to England. I had a very positive experience there with an English bus driver. I was in a much smaller city than London, called Plymouth. And I was astonished by the familiarity the bus driver had with the passengers. The bus driver kept asking questions like, 'How is your family?' 'Is your husband getting better?' Things like that, which is simply unimaginable in Hungary.
